Paper- ‘A’
Hindi or any language included in the 8th schedule of the constitution.
- One of the languages of India, included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, is selected by the candidate for Paper-‘A’.
- This paper will not be compulsory for candidates hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim.
- The total marks of this paper is 300, in which the qualifying marks have been fixed at 75 (25%).
- The pattern of questions will be broadly as follows-
comprehensibility, Brief writing, Vocabulary, Short Essay, Translation from English to the Indian language and vice‐versa.

Comprehension of given passages, Précis Writing, Usage and Vocabulary, Short Essay
Note:
- The papers on Indian Languages and English (Paper ‘A’ and Paper ‘B’) will be of Matriculation or equivalent level in which only qualifying marks will be required. The marks obtained in these papers will not be counted for determining the order of merit.
- उम्मीदवारों को क्वालिफाइंग अंग्रेज़ी एवं एक भारतीय भाषा के प्रश्नपत्रों का उत्तर क्रमशः अंग्रेज़ी एवं संबंधित भारतीय भाषा में ही लिखना होता है (यदि किसी प्रश्न विशेष में अन्यथा निर्दिष्ट न हो)।
- Candidates are required to answer the qualifying papers of English and one Indian language in English and the Indian language concerned respectively (unless otherwise specified in a particular question).
- The papers of Essay, General Studies and Optional Subject of all candidates will be evaluated along with those qualifying papers of ‘Indian Language’ and English, but the papers of Essay, General Studies and Optional Subject will be considered only in the case of such candidate , who secure 25% marks in Indian Language and 25% in English as minimum qualifying standards in these qualifying papers.
